JUNE 6 – On this day in 1944, Allied forces land troops on Normandy beaches for the largest amphibious landing in history — Operation Overlord (D-Day).

April 10, 1941 the C3 Cargo Ship
“SS EXCELSIOR” – 3rd built by Ingalls
Hull No. 255, was ready for delivery.

Became ATS – Army Transport Service
Renamed SS LYON

Just one of several Ingalls built ships that
CARRIED TROOPS TO NORMANY from the United Kingdom
on D-DAY, JUNE 6, 1944.

RECEIVED 5 BATTLE STARS IN WORLD WAR II
