Mississippi Shipbuilding and Maritime Center Joins Forces at the
“We Work the Waterways” Event

Pascagoula, MS – September 6, 2024

The Mississippi Shipbuilding and Maritime Center proudly participated in the “We Work the Waterways” event at the Port of Pascagoula facilities on Singing River Island. This impactful national education outreach program, designed to promote awareness of the waterways and industries connected to them, welcomed over 100 Pascagoula High School students eager to learn about the vital role of maritime professions.

Through age-appropriate educational programming, “We Work the Waterways” mobilizes maritime professionals to connect with the next generation, sharing their stories and instilling the ethics and values that uphold the industry. The event aligns with the Mississippi Shipbuilding and Maritime Center’s mission to promote workforce awareness and inspire students to explore careers in the maritime sector.

The Mississippi Shipbuilding and Maritime Center partnered with notable organizations such as Bollinger Shipyards, NOAA, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Port of Pascagoula, and many others to provide an immersive and informative experience for students. Attendees had the unique opportunity to engage with experts, ask questions, and gain firsthand insight into the industries that power the region’s economy.

We are incredibly proud to be part of such an important event,” said Jack Nail, Board Member of the Mississippi Shipbuilding and Maritime Center, who hosted the organization’s event table. “This is an amazing opportunity to connect with students and foster an appreciation for the waterways that are so integral to our community. We thank ‘We Work the Waterways’ and the Pascagoula Propeller Club for hosting this inspiring event.”
